God Created All Things in Six Days
According to the Bible, the entire universe, including this earth, and the human race, was brought into existence at the beginning of time when God created all things out of nothing only by the power of His almighty Word. (Genesis 1, 2.) The Biblical account is clear that the entire creation took place during six normal days, and not over long periods of time. The truth of this miracle is supported by many other passages of the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments (Exodus 20:11, Hebrews 11:3). Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Himself testified to the truth of the divine creation many times during His ministry (Matthew 19:4).
Unfortunately, many churches today teach that the first chapters of Genesis are not reliable historical accounts. Some Christians fear that science has proven that life has evolved over millions of years. They assume that science and the Bible are at odds and incompatible.
Science has never been incompatible with the Bible. Science is merely the exploration of God’s magnificent design. In fact, scientists have more reason than any to marvel at the wonders of God’s creation. Most scientists up until the last century were all Christians and found no incompatibility with the Genesis creation account and science. A thoughtful and honest approach to scientific discovery reveals that the Biblical account of creation is more compatible with existing scientific evidence than current theories of origin.
You may wonder why this is even important. Does it really matter if God created the world or if it all happened by chance? God says it does.
The denial of creation has had devastating effects. Since Jesus taught that the Genesis creation was true, rejecting the Genesis account of creation is the same as calling Jesus either a liar or a fool. It also contradicts the first article of the Apostles’ Creed, “I believe in God the Father, Maker of heaven and earth.”
Attempts to combine the Biblical account of creation with evolution are equally disastrous. To say that God created the raw materials and then let it evolve goes against the clear grammatical wording of the Genesis account. Worse yet, it means that God designed death and decay as part of his good creation rather than as a curse because of sin. It puts humankind on the same level as the animals instead of the special creation that God declares man to be. It ultimately means that man needs no Savior from sin – the very heart of the Christian faith.
While God’s creation was a one-time act in the beginning, God does continue His providential work in the world every day by abundantly providing for the earthly needs of all people only by His grace (Psalm 145:15,16). He allows humans to take part in His work by giving them the ability to rule over creation (Genesis 1:28), and the responsibility to use and care for it properly (Genesis 2:15). The LORD also protects and preserves believers by keeping them from harm (Psalm 121:7), or by making it serve their eternal good (Romans 8:28).
God wants you to know that you are a special creation, uniquely created. God loved you so much that he was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice – the life of his own Son, Jesus Christ.
